If you read my Blog, you might know that I had to stop writing for a while, simply, because my health was really poorly, first due to my issue with my herniated discs, but also due to constantly occurring allergic reactions and a weak immune system, which quickly lead to a depression and an all-time low.
Lying in bed forced me to really think a lot (and also feel sorry about myself at first) but after a while I decided to get my arse into gear, rise up and take control of my own fate again. I promised myself that I’ll do whatever it takes to feel better than I have ever before.
So here is a short list of my current tips how I try to conquer my issues and fight my way back to happiness and health:
You are never too old to dream a new dream or set a new goal.
Take your time and think about what you dreamed of when you where little. What did you enjoy doing? Remember the excitement you had on the days before Christmas, your birthday or the day before going on holiday with your parents.
Take your time and really think about it: What would you like to achieve? What are your biggest dreams? What are your most important goals? Do you want to run a marathon? Do you want to learn a new language?
Face the uneasy but liberating fact that you are your greatest ally but also your fiercest enemy - meaning you are the only person standing between you and your goals. Given sufficient time you can learn anything and do anything. And since we tend to be able to make time for things that are really important to us there is really nothing holding you back. Go on - you can do this.
Learn to really listen to your body.
Take your time and listen to your body. But not only the “I want chocolate now” part. Really take the time to familiarize yourself with your body and it’s various signals (this might include ridding yourself of some addictive substances if the only signals you are getting are “coffee” and “martini”).
I know my body quite well by now, but still, it keeps reacting to different situations in my life in all sorts of different ways. When I`m invited to an important event for example it is safe to bet that I will have a cold sore on that exact day. In fact all my Kindergarten pictures (without exception) can prove this. ;-)
Or when I’m having a stressful time at work for instance the odds are high that I will come down with a urinary tract infection - or some random allergic reaction.
It is important to listen to your body and don’t stress yourself. If you worry too much your body will do the same.
You have the right to wake up happy and look forward to your day.
Are you unhappy with what you are doing for a living right now? Are you dragging yourself to work everyday? Is the pressure too high? Maybe your colleagues are mobbing you, or you are anxious to loose your job because of the overall economic situation?
Remember this: It is never too late to change - not for anyone. You have the right to wake up in the morning happy and to look forward to what you are going to do that day.
I had to cope with too much pressure at work for a long time, also with the fact that it was being communicated clearly that everyone is replaceable. I also had my fair share of mobbing and micro managing supervisors.
It took me a while, but I’m now confident with my skills and work experience so that I won’t out up with situations like this anymore.
Try it out - think about what you would like to do and send out a few job applications - you might be surprised about the positive responses you will receive.
Be active - go out and enjoy every single day.
Lying in bed and feeling sorry for yourself might seem like a good Idea for a few days, but after that it is important to realize how much life has to offer. For me driving around in my car or taking long walks are the best sources of new ideas and energy.
I’m trying really hard to overcome all of my issues at the moment and I feel these four simple tips really have helped me a great deal so far.
